The third Sunday of the period of Great Lent is called the Sunday of the Lost Son according to the Parable of the Lost Son told in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 15:15-32). There was once a man who had two sons. Upon the request of the younger one he divided his property between his two sons. The younger son took his part of inheritance and left home. He went to a country far away, where he wasted his money in reckless living. He spent everything he had. In that time of trouble he remembered his father’s house, regretted for his reckless living and returned to his father’s home with a plea ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ Seeing that his younger son has regretted, the father received him joyfully. But the elder son complained, saying that during all those years he had worked for his father like a slave and had never disobeyed his orders, and however, he had never deserved such honor. His father answered him: “My son, you are always here with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and to be happy, because your brother was dead, but now he is alive; he was lost, but now he has been found.”The elder and the younger sons are the righteous and the sinful souls, and father’s receiving his lost son means that in the same way God receives the regretting sinner. The older son symbolizes all those who are righteous or think that there are righteous and the parable cautions all of them not to be self-conceited.
ԱՆԱՌԱԿԻ ԿԻՐԱԿԻ
Մեծ Պահոց երրորդ կիրակին կը կոչուի Անառակի կիրակի, որովհետեւ այսօր կարդացուող Աւետարանը կը պատմէ Անառակ Որդիին առակը (Ղուկ. 15:11-32): Այս առակը կը համարուի Նոր Կտակարանի ամենաթանկագին գոհարներէն մէկը, որ, իր մէջ կը բովանդակէ Աւետարանի հիմնական ուսուցումները եւ երբեմն ան կ’անուանուի «Աւետարան Աւետարանին մէջ»:
Մարդ մը երկու զաւակ ունէր: Կրտսեր որդին հօրը կը խնդրէ որ իր ունեցուածքը բաժնէ իր երկու որդիներու միջեւ եւ իր բաժինը կ’առնէ ու հօրենական տունէն կը հեռանայ: Հոն զեղխ կեանք վարելով իր ամբողջ ունեցածը կը վատնէ ու կը սնանկանայ: Կրտսեր որդին շատ կը զղջայ ու իր այս տխուր վիճակին մէջ կը յիշէ հօրը տունը եւ կ’որոշէ վերադառնալ ըսելով. «Հա՛յր, մեղանչեցի երկինքի դէմ ու քու առջեւդ, եւ ա՛լ արժանի չեմ քու որդիդ կոչուելու. ըրէ՛ զիս վարձկաններէդ մէկուն պէս»: Հայրը զաւկին զղջումը տեսնելով կ’ուրախանայ եւ գրկաբաց զայն կ’ընդունի: Աւագ որդին կը դժգոհի, որ ինք միշտ հօր կողքին եղած է, բայց նման պատիւի չէ արժանացած: Հայրն ալ կըսէ “Որդեա՛կ, դուն միշտ ինծի հետ ես, ու ամբողջ ունեցածս քո՛ւկդ է: Սակայն պէտք էր զուարճանալ եւ ուրախանալ, որովհետեւ այս եղբայրդ մեռած էր՝ ու վերապրեցաւ, կորսուած էր՝ եւ գտնուեցաւ»:
Առակը ցոյց կուտայ, որ Հայր Աստուած ալ իր գիրկը կ’ընդունի ապաշխարհող մեղաւորը եւ անոնք, որ կը կարծեն թէ արդար են պետք է խուսափին իրենց մասին չափազանց բարձր կարծիք ունենալէ:
