Sassoun Dance Ensemble’s 11th Annual Performances

Sassoun Dance Ensemble of Holy Trinity Armenian Church presented their Eleventh Annual Performance entitled “1000 Colours” on June 13, 2015 at 3pm and 7pm. With an attendance of almost 600 guests, Sassoun Dance Ensemble mesmerized their audience with dances that left them in complete surprise.

This year’s theme and dances was one that revolved around the common aspect of the fusion of Armenian traditional dances, music and costumes with modern influences and genres. Each dance had at least one modern aspect to it, whether it be the song, the dance, the costume or a combination of these. The group presented different genres of dances including hip hop, ballroom, contemporary, jazz, etc. This refreshing take on Armenian dance gave the audience a new mindset on our culture. One of the fan favourites was our traditional “Ov Sirun Sirun” love song, presented in the form of a tango. Another was the classic folk “Ghapama” presented through a jazzy feel complete with tap dancing.

The Eleventh Annual Performance was dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. It showed that not only have we, as a people, been able to rise from the dark days of genocide, but we have also been able to expand our culture and make an impact globally, by presenting a fusion of Armenian culture into global arts culture.

The successful performance ended with His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian’s encouraging words and prayer. As the Eleventh Annual Performance came to an end, Sassoun Dance Ensemble prepares for their next performance on July 1^st Canada Day in Downtown, Toronto’s Dundas Square, once again representing our Armenian Heritage in a multicultural setting.

They will then add yet another country to their international performance resume of Armenia, Karabagh, United States (New York), Argentina & Uruguay. They will be the first Canadian-Armenian dance group to travel to and perform in Melbourne & Sydney Australia in August 2015.

Sassoun Dance Ensemble, founded in 2004 by Rev. Archpriest Fr. Zareh Zargarian, will continue on to their 12^th season on September 4^th, 2015 under the leadership Artistic Director and Choreographer, Sevag Avakian and of Assistant Director and Costume Coordinator, Sareen Avakian.

Սասուն Պարախումբի 11-րդ Տարեկան Ելոյթները

Ս. Երրորդութիւն Եկեղեցւոյ Սասուն Պարախումբը ներկայացուց իր 11-րդ տարեկան ելոյթը, «1000 Գոյներ», Յունիսի 13-ին, ժամը 3-ին եւ 7-ին։ Իրենց պարերով, Սասունի անդամները հիացուցին 600 հաշուող հանդիսատեսներ։

Այս տարուայ նիւթն ու պարերը հետաքրքրական համադրում մըն էին արդիական եւ աւանդական պարերու, երաժշտութեան եւ տարազներու։ Այսպէս, իւրաքանչիւր պար ունէր նուազագոյն մէկ արդիական մօտեցում յիշուած տարրերու։ Խումբը ներկայացուց տարբեր տեսակի պարեր, ինչպէս հիփ-հոփ, դասական, այժմէական, ճազ, եւայլն։ Այս նոր մօտեցումը եւ ներկայացումը հաճելի մատուցում մըն էր ներկաներուն։ Օրինակ՝ սիրուած Ով սիրուն, սիրուն երգը ներկայացուեցաւ իբրեւ թանկօ. իսկ ժողովրդական Ղաբաման ներկայացուեցաւ ճազ տարբերակով։

11-րդ տարեկան ելոյթը ձօնուած էր Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան հարիւրամեակին, անգամ մը եւս շեշտելու որ մենք, իբրեւ ժողովուրդ, ոչ միայն վերընձիւղած ենք ցեղասպանութեան մութ օրերէն, այլ կրցած ենք պահել ու զարգացնել մեր մշակոյթը միջազգային մակարդակով, եւ զայն տարածած ենք աշխարհով մէկ։

Պարախումբի այս յաջող ելոյթը վերջ գտաւ Գանատահայոց Առաջնորդ՝ Գերշ. Տ. Աբգար եպս. Յովակիմեանի քաջալերական խօսքերով ու աղօթքով։ Սասուն Պարախումբը կը պատրաստուի մաս կազմելու Գանատայի Օրուան հանդիսութիւններուն, որոնք տեղի պիտի ունենան Յուլիսի 1-ին, Թորոնթոյի Տանտաս հրապարակին վրայ. առիթ մը եւս մեր հայկական ժառանգութիւնը ներկայացնելու բազմամշակութային շրջապատի մէջ։

Սոյն տարուայ Օգոստոս ամսուն Սասուն Պարախումբը կը մեկնի Մելպուրն եւ Սիտնի – Աւստրալիա, հանդիսանալով առաջին գանատահայ արուեստի խումբը այդ ցամաքամասին մէջ ելոյթներ ունենալու։ Նշենք որ Սասուն Պարախումբը ցարդ այցելած է Արցախ, Միացեալ Նահանգներ (Նիւ Եօրք), Արժանթին եւ Ուրուկուէյ։

Սասուն Պարախումբը, հիմնուած 2004 թուականին Արժ. Տ. Զարեհ Ա. քհն. Զարգարեանի կողմէ, պիտի թեւակոխէ իր 12-րդ տարեշրջանը Աեպտեմբեր 4, 2015-ին, գեղարուեստական ղեկավար եւ պարուսոյց ունենալով Սեւակ Աւագեանը, իսկ օգնական ղեկավար եւ տարազներու պատասխանատու՝ Սարին Աւագեանը։
