Obituary – The Late Krikor Greg Andonian

With a very heavy heart, we announce the passing of dear brother, husband, father and grandfather Krikor (Greg) Serop Andonian on August 29, 2024 in Toronto, Canada. He is survived by his wife (Armenoui), his children Kevork (Caroline) and Hripsime (Russell), his grandchild Sebastian Karnig and siblings Arshaluys Talatinian and family, Lusin Balian and family, Aghavni (Hrant) Khatchadourian and family, as well as the family of the late Dr. Barkev Andonian.
Krikor was born in 1941 to Serop Andonian and Marie Kasparian in Aleppo, Syria. From the earliest days of childhood, his stellar intellectual and academic talents were perceptible to principals, teachers and students alike, as he studied in three languages and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in 1963 with top honours.
To pursue his passion for studying architecture in his homeland of Armenia, Krikor started his Masters of Architecture at Yerevan Polytechnic University in 1963, where he met his future wife Armenoui.
After graduating in 1968, Krikor immigrated to Canada to pursue a better future and commenced his Masters of Science in Systems Design at the University of Waterloo, which he completed in 1973.
Serendipitously, he reunited with his future wife Armenoui in 1975 when she immigrated to New York with her own family. Krikor and Armenoui were married at St. Vartan Armenian Church in New York on August 28, 1976.
Indeed, Krikor started his illustrious 48-year-old career as Professor of Architecture at Carleton University in Sept 1976, where he mentored thousands of students from around the world to become leaders in their respective professional fields.
In 1978, the same year his first child Kevork was born, he defended his PhD in Systems Design at the University of Waterloo, focusing on the art, science and philosophy of design in the creative development of architecture via digital means. Krikor’s second child, Hripsime, soon completed their family in 1981.
For the past 48 years, Krikor has played a vital role in organizing numerous yearly international conferences on the themes of architecture and technology in various cities across North America and Europe, contributing to the development of intellectual thought in terms of informatics, systems design and cybernetics.
In addition to his exemplary decades-long contribution to academics, Krikor instilled a passion for education and lifelong learning in anyone he met. With his hard-working and persistent personality, keen intellect, sharp mind and superior ability to debate and defend through thoughtful analysis, Krikor (Greg) Serop Andonian has certainly made a deep and meaningful impact on this world and his eternal memory will remain in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
