On Sunday April 23, 2017, Divine Liturgy was celebrated by the Rev. Archpriest Fr. Zareh Zargarian at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church.
Following his sermon, dedicated to 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Fr. Zargarian welcomed The Honourable Mitzie Hunter, the Minister of Education and Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough-Guildwood and invited her to say a few words.
The Honorable Mitzie Hunter, thanked Fr. Zargarian for the invitation and the opportunity to pay her respect to the one and a half million martyrs of the Armenian genocide.
The Minister read the personal message of Premier Kathleen Wynne on the occasion of 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
During her address to the parishioners Hon. Mitzie Hunter MPP, thanked Armenian Family Support Services Chair Rita Odjaghian as well as the Board and Volunteers of AFSS for all their dedicated work in helping Syrian refugees fleeing their homes in that region today.
After her speech, Hon. Mitzie Hunter MPP joined the AFSS Community Support Circle in “Magaros Artinian” Hall, where AFSS had organized an employment workshop for the refugees. She went from table to table to greet the refugees and was moved to tears with some of the stories about the newcomers challenges. Hon. Mitzie Hunter MPP, reassured them, they were safe and welcome here in Canada.
Dr. Arpi Panossian Muttart, Principal of the Saturday School met with Minister Hunter and expressed her appreciation for the opportunity provided to St. Sahag and St. Mesrop Armenian Saturday School of the Holy Trinity Armenian Church to join the Toronto District School Board. The Minister was then invited to attend the Saturday School’s Annual Concert on June 10, which she accepted.
Rev. Archpriest Fr. Zareh Zargarian extended his gratitude to Hon. Mitzie Hunter for joining the parish on this special commemoration day and presented her a unique gift, The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin carved on a stone, as a token of appreciation.
